Bismuth selenide has a rhomohedral crystal structure R-3m with lattice constants a = c = .

Solvothermal Growth Procedure:

In an Erlenmeyer flask, stir together 1.0 g EDTA, 0.5 g polyvinyl pyrollidone, 0.47 g bismuth oxide, 0.28 g selenium, all in 42 mL of ethylene glycol. Stir for about two hours.

Place in teflon liner of a Parr acid digestion bomb and in an oven at 165C for 12 hours.
