Bismuth Oxychloride (BiOCl)
BiOCl:
BiOCl has an tetragonal crystal structure (spacegroup: p4/mmn) with lattice constants a = 3.89 ang c = 7.37 ang.
Chemicals:
Bismuth nitrate pentahydrate, DI water, NaCl, D-mannitol
Solvothermal Growth Procedure:
In an Erlenmeyer flask, mix together 1 mmol (0.49 g) Bi(NO3)3.5H2O and 25mL of a 0.1 M D-mannitol solution (0.455g mannitol in 25 mL water). Stir for about 10 minutes or less until dissolved. Add in 5-6mL of a saturated NaCl solution (2.6g NaCl in 10 mL H2O). Continue stirring.
Place into a teflon lined acid digestion Parr bomb. Heat at 150C for 3 hours.
