Iron Oxychloride (FeOCl)
FeOCl:
FeOCl has an orthorhombic crystal structure (spacegroup: pmmn) with lattice constants a = 3.77 Ang b= 7.91 ang c = 3.30 ang .
Chemicals:
iron nitrate nanohydrate, DI water, NaCl, D-mannitol
Solvothermal Growth Procedure:
In an Erlenmeyer flask, mix together 1 mmol (0.4049 g) Fe(NO3)3.9H2O and 25mL of a 0.1 M D-mannitol solution (0.455g mannitol in 25 mL water). Stir for about 10 minutes or less until dissolved. Add in 5-6mL of a saturated NaCl solution (2.6g NaCl in 10 mL H2O). Continue stirring.
Place into a teflon lined acid digestion Parr bomb. Heat at 150C for 3 hours.
